Osasuna Suffers a Tough Loss at Levante, 3-2

Los Rojillos were not able to hold on to their two-goal advantage

Club Atlético Osasuna (11-9-15, 42 points) suffered a last-minute loss to Levante Unión Deportiva (9-9-17, 36 points) after the home side rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 victory at Estadio Ciutat de València on Friday night. Before the 15-minute mark, Los Rojillos led 2-0 after Levante defender Jeremy Toljan scored an own goal in the third minute and Ante Budimir doubled the lead with his 17th LaLiga goal nine minutes later. However, the Granotes responded and tied the match before halftime through defender Víctor García, who scored twice in quick succession.

With the match tied at halftime, Osasuna faced an uphill battle after goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was sent off late in the first half. Levante pressed in the second half and secured the win in the 90th minute.

Osasuna started strong. In the third minute, midfielder Jon Moncayola collected a through ball and sent a cross into the box that Toljan deflected into his own net. Nine minutes later, defender Abel Bretones fired a low cross from the left and found Budimir, who finished to make it 2-0.

After the second goal, Levante increased the pressure. In the 35th minute, García scored off a corner kick to halve the deficit, then equalized two minutes later when his intended cross curled unexpectedly into the net. Just before halftime, Osasuna’s hopes suffered a blow as Herrera was shown a red card for handling the ball outside the box.

Levante continued to press after the break, and in the 90th minute, forward Etta Eyong scored the winner to complete the comeback.

Osasuna will return to action Tuesday, May 12, hosting Atlético de Madrid at El Sadar. Kickoff is at 9:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. BST, 3:30 p.m. ET).
